Gordon Brown is struggling to keep afloat in his desperate campaign to finally get the approval of the country to run it.

The whole Labour campaign seems very hopeful that we will forget the last thirteen years of disasters they have brought us,

David Cameron’s Conservatives want to put forward a new alternative, trying to persuade the electorate they are a changed force. No longer are they the Thatcher party of privatizations and closing down of mines, or imposing of crazy council tax alternatives.

Now the other lot, the Liberal Democrats as led by Nick Clegg, are looking to break up the two party domination and offer a new option.

Other players include the UK Independence Party led my Nigel Farage, British National Party led by Nick Griffin, and the devolved nationality parties – Plaid
Cymru and the Scottish National Party.

The media have been making chaos for all the main parties dependent on their particular allegiances. Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and The Sun all backing the Tories, Daily Mirror loyally backing Gordo and his crowd.

May 6th 2010 is the date when the country gets its chance to make its democratic contribution and select who they want to represent their views on the national stage.

The series of televised leaders debates have livened things up to a spicy level this year. The first one, on ITV, was expected to be Cameron’s big chance to shine. But what he failed to expect was Nick Clegg and his TV skills – his ability to speak directly to the public rather than the shows audience, sideline himself from the expected main show – Brown v Cameron. The ratings put Clegg ahead of his rivals, and suddenly threw open the race to an unexpected new area.

The second debate, this time on Sky, had a different feel to it. The press all week had been attacking Clegg and scrutinizing his every aspect. He gave another polished performance and while Cameron increased his game still failed to deliver a knock out blow to his competitor. The Prime Minister still blundering around in third place in the polls.

So with ten days or so to go, Britain looks like it may be heading towards a hung parliament. The Tories don’t seem to be in a position to win enough seats on their own to have an overall majority. Labour’s stronghold voters seem reluctant to stray to another party despite the misery Mr Brown has brought this nation along with the war criminal Tony Blair. Lib Dems could be vital as to the future, or could they even BE the future?

Snowman with No Future

Snow falls in the cold times of the year. Snow is something that should make us think about what journeys are essential and what isnt. Snow should make us all take more care when out and about.

What amazes me constantly is the lack of resolute spirit of some people to try and make an effort to get anywhere at all. There is no need for so many schools to close, certainly not for health and safety issues – kids fall over in the snow, thats part of growing up! There is no need for alternative childcare to be arranged by busy parents for snowy times – the effect on the already weak economy is massive!

Snow doesn’t last long, it comes and goes fairly quickly – historically that has been the case too. Snowmen will melt and disappear, paths and roads clear themselves when the sun comes out, and people go back to their normal way of life once again. Why so much fuss has to be made about it is beyond me.

It was amusing to note that the BBC News team only started making a fuss about the snow when it hit the South East corner of Britain. It had been in Scotland for some time, and had covered the North of England too – but very little mention of it until London had been affected. London – the city with the best public transport system in Britain! If snow affects your journey in the rural areas of Britain, you are stuffed as there is no public transport or gritters to help you. In the City, the resources are thrown at you – gritting teams, buses, tubes, etc… and publicity of your plight on national television too.

Britain should get a grip, if it snows – work out what you need to do, and just get on with it and do it!

Yorkshire Pudding

Born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Raised from age 5 to 34 in the West Midlands. It is now time to start the journey back home. Its time I returned to Yorkshire.

They say a Yorkshireman can leave Yorkshire, but the Yorkshire never leaves the man. Its where his home is, where he feels just right – and its the same for me, Yorkshire to me is still home.

You may think that sounds daft having lived 29 years elsewhere, but whilst Wolverhampton has been where I have lived, and been fond of the place – its not my home like Yorkshire is.

There is a certain something about the feeling back home, its warmth that it brings to me inside, the friendliness of the people is so comforting. Other people have the same feeling about other places, but I don’t think that it is quite the same for me elsewhere anywhere else other than in Yorkshire.

Yorkshire born, Yorkshire I am, and Yorkshire is where I am heading home. (Subject to finding a job, house, and all that gubbins that comes with that….!)

British Legion

The 2009 Poppy Appeal has today been launched. You may see that people on television are often the first ones to be seen wearing poppies, often before you see them on people in the street.

I think it is important for as many people as possible to support the Poppy Appeal. Not just to remember those who have passed away in conflicts of years gone by, but visually supporting those who are still overseas in conflicts or suffering from injuries inflicted by war.

The poppy is a very special symbol, taken from the fields of Flanders where the red flower flourished after the fields were formerly trenches and battlefields. The blood ref petals symbolic of the blood shed for the good of others.

Wednesday 11th November is Remembrence Day, and Sunday 8th November is Remembrance Sunday where church services will celebrate and commemorate the fallen and the saved.

Nick Griffin MEP

Tonight on BBC1 a controversial episode of the topical political show Question Time will be aired. Controversial? Yes – its the first time that a representative from the British National Party appears on the show. There has been much written already about this, even court injunctions sought to try and stop the BNP having a voice on the show.

Nick Griffin, the Member of European Parliament, and leader of the BNP will appear tonight alongside Labour’s Jack Straw MP, Conservative Baroness Warsi, LibDem Chris Huhne MP, playwright Bonnie Greer and host David Dimbleby.

Whilst we all know the BNP have racist views and don’t seem the nicest bunch of people around. They are at least bringing certain topics to the table to discuss – but these topics aren’t getting talked about due to the racism card that people can’t see past.

A lot of people at the European Elections voted for UKIP and the BNP because they are fed up of our continual handing out of benefits to people coming half way across the world to come and sponge off our over-generous benefits system. We have an island to live on and it is getting far too cramped and the inner city areas cannot cope. Britain has always welcomed people from other countries to come and live here and be part of Britain.

What people are objecting to is the main parties ignoring these issues. We need to look at these issues and start addressing them or more and more people will start looking to the extremist groups for answers if the mainstream guys don’t offer them the support and protection that they want.

Spam

What is quite funny is the Spam messages that fill my Comments Approval Box for the blogs I run, they aren’t even written in sentences, just a load of links to dodgy medication, porn and all other virus ridden links which no-one of a sound mind would ever click through.

I don’t see what market there is for spam like this, and don’t understand why my email address and millions of others continue to get this.  Is there really a type of person that uses these links to get their computer mucked up irrepairably?

I think the computer manufacturers and internet service providers need to get together and work to get rid of these malicious pest from our computing once and for all. Come on guys, get it sorted out!

The Giants are nearby rivals of the Wildcats, but they do come from Yorkshire. Warrington, who Wakey beat just last week, are from ‘over t’hill’ in Cheshire/Lancashire. So regardless of any rivalry with the Midgets, we were going to be supporting the Yorkshire side for the day.

A day out at Wembley is something that all Rugby League fans need to experience, never any trouble, always a great atmosphere, all the different fans in their team shirts mingling amongst the two finalists supporters, usually glorious sunshine and a load of confused Southerners on the tube wondering who this Northern lot are who actually talk to each other on the tube instead of ignoring everyone.

shouting through tannoys not to stand at the top of the stairs and take photos of the first glimpse you have of Wembley Stadium – everyone ignores them! The view is amazing, all the fans walking up Wembley Way together, united in their love of the game.

On the way up to the ground, four Wakefield players were selling raffle tickets in aid of the Wakefield Trinity Players Support Fund. This year has been a sad year for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats with the sad death of Adam Watene in the gym in pre-season, and also the death or Reserve player Leon Walker on the pitch in the reserve fixture away at Celtic Crusaders early in the season. The players support fund is a very worthy cause then, so it was good to see the players raising funds for the families of the team-mates they had lost this year.

overseas Wakey players were there to try and sell raffle tickets for the cause. The prize is every Super League and NRL club shirts signed by all the players – a big prize for the supporter who wins that.

The two players who I spoke to – Jason and Tevita, were very friendly and were glad to speak to some Wakey fans while they were there. They are great ambassadors for the sport, and top blokes all around.

The match was good, Warrington Wolves won the game, slightly more enthusiasm from them throughout the match was the keya s well as a very well organised line. Huddersfield bunched together, Warrington tried a few different tactics and had the Giants on the back foot quite often for a tightly contested game.

Me and my Dad enjoyed the Wembley day out at the Challenge Cup Final, and we can very much recommend it to anyone who fancies going to it in future – a good day out is pretty much guaranteed. Rugby League at its best!

Recognition Award 2009

As the founder of the Wolverhampton Warlords Rugby League club back in November 2006, and the club manager throught the period since then – I have been invited to attend a Mayoral Reception at the Civic Centre in Wolverhampton to celebrate my contribution to ‘Sport in the City of Wolverhampton’.

Wolverhampton Rugby League really has been growing over the last three years, over 100 players have given Rugby League a try, some have not liked it and left after one training session, some have stayed some time, some have left and returned, some have been with us all the way along.  It is of great testament to all involved that a club has grown out of such small roots.

We started off with two of us over the park throwing a ball around, and now we have completed three summer seasons, we have played all over Britain, and are widely recognised as one of the up and coming clubs in the country with good development ethics.

Our focus is to try and get new people into the sport, preferably from no sporting background whatsoever.  People who are not doing any sport, we can teah them the basics and they can develop at their own pace. It is alien to a lot of other clubs out there, but we feel the progress we are making is very good and is a lot for all the players to feel proud of, I know I am!

This is my third recognition that I have formally been given for the Warlords work over the last three years.  In 2007, I was awarded the Midlands Merit League Pioneer of the Year Award for focussing on development of Rugby League in the area. This year, my club awarded me a Recognition Award for the hard work and commitment given to them over the last few years, and now the Mayor’s invitation caps off the good start we have made over the last three years.

Still holding out for that MBE though! Hehe!!
